Welfare Support Workers offer assistance, guidance, and advice to clients concerning emotional well-being, financial matters, recreational activities, healthcare, housing, and various other social welfare issues. They also assess and coordinate the services provided by welfare and community service agencies.

 

Indicative Skill Level:

Most occupations in this unit group have a level of skill commensurate with the qualifications and experience outlined below.

 

In Australia:

AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma (ANZSCO Skill Level 2)

 

In New Zealand:

NZQF Diploma (ANZSCO Skill Level 2)

At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above. In some instances, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification.

 

Estimate salary aud$76,000 up to aud$85,000 per year.

 

Tasks Include:

 

  • Assessing individuals’ needs and designing educational, training, and support programs accordingly.
  • Conducting interviews to evaluate the nature and extent of difficulties faced by clients.
  • Monitoring and documenting clients’ progress throughout their participation in the programs.
  • Referring clients to relevant agencies that can provide additional assistance.
  • Evaluating the community’s requirements and available resources for health, welfare, housing, employment, training, and other essential services.
  • Collaborating with community groups, welfare agencies, government entities, and private businesses to address community issues and promote awareness of available resources and services.
  • Supporting families and providing care and education to children and individuals with disabilities in various settings such as adult service units, group housing, and government institutions.
  • Supervising probationers and parolees within the criminal justice system.
  • Assisting young people in resolving social, emotional, and financial problems they may face.
  • Compiling funding and resource proposals, as well as preparing reports for government bodies and other relevant organizations.
