Psychologists conduct investigations, assessments, and provide treatment and counselling to promote optimal personal, social, educational, and occupational adjustment and development.

In Australia and New Zealand:

Most occupations in this unit group have a level of skill commensurate with a bachelor degree or higher qualification. In some instances, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 1).

 

Registration or licensing may be required.

 

Estimate salary aud$110,000 up to aud$150,000 per year.

 

Tasks Include:

 

  • Gathering client data and evaluating cognitive, behavioural, and emotional disorders.
  • Administering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and creating treatment plans.
  • Designing, implementing, and assessing individual and group treatment programs.
  • Collaborating with other professionals to discuss cases and treatment strategies.
  • Conducting research studies on learning motivation, group performance, and individual differences in mental abilities and educational achievement.
  • Collecting and analysing student data to recommend appropriate educational programs.
  • Developing achievement, diagnostic, and predictive tests to assist teachers in instructional planning.
  • Creating interview techniques, psychological tests, and other tools for workplace selection, placement, performance appraisal, and promotion.
  • Conducting surveys and research on job design, work groups, morale, motivation, supervision, and management.
  • Performing job analyses and determining job requirements through observations and interviews with employees and managers.
