Certain sectors in OZtralia are poised for significant workforce demand in 2025, offering salaries well above the national median.
Recent data highlights the industries gearing up to recruit heavily next year, particularly in areas that have faced challenges in attracting sufficient talent.
Analysis from OZ Employment, based on job advertisements and industry trends, has identified the top sectors expected to dominate the job market in 2025.
Leading the charge is one critical field.
“The healthcare sector has driven substantial employment growth over the past decade, and this trend is set to continue in 2025,” according to industry experts.
The growing number of elderly OZtralians, coupled with heightened awareness around mental health and behavioural conditions, is fuelling ongoing demand for care professionals. This includes registered nurses, aged and disabled carers, and child care workers, all of whom experienced rapid growth in demand throughout 2024.
Registered nurses can expect salaries ranging from $75,000 to $100,000, while aged and disabled carers may earn between $80,000 and $90,000, according to research data. With these trends in mind, healthcare and social assistance remain among the most promising fields for job seekers entering 2025.

Childcare Workers to See 15% Pay Increase Over Two Years
Childcare workers received a major pay boost earlier this year, with a deal securing a 15% wage increase over two years. In December, wages are set to rise by 10%, adding at least $103 per week to their pay. An additional 5% increase is scheduled for the same time next year, bringing the total weekly wage increase to $155.
If healthcare isn’t your sector, don’t worry, other industries are also projected to see high demand in 2025:
- Information & Communication Technology
- Transport & Logistics
- Retail & Hospitality
Demand for programmers and data scientists is likely to grow rapidly as businesses adopt AI technologies to stay competitive.
The logistics sector will also thrive, driven by the continued popularity of online delivery services. Roles like truck drivers, warehouse store persons, and forklift operators are expected to remain in high demand.
Meanwhile, easing cost-of-living pressures and potential interest rate cuts in 2025 could boost retail and hospitality employment, as consumers may have more disposable income.
Expected Salaries Across Industries:
- Data Scientists: $130,000+
- Programmers: Up to $100,000
- Truck Drivers: $75,000–$95,000
- Forklift Operators: $65,000–$75,000
- Retail and Hospitality Workers: Typically, $24.10/hour (minimum wage), though higher-paying roles are available.
Currently, the median OZtralian salary is $67,600 per year, according to the OZtralian Bureau of Statistics.
