A Miner (also known as a Mining Plant Operator) primary responsibility is to operate machinery and equipment to excavate, load, and transport coal, ore, and rock in either an underground or open-cut mine. This involves using heavy machinery such as excavators, loaders, bulldozers, and trucks to extract and move the materials.

Indicative Skill Level:
In Australia:
AQF Certificate II or III, or at least one year of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 4)

In New Zealand:
NZQF Level II or III qualification, or at least one year of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 4)

A miner requires relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification.

Registration or licensing may be required. Skill level 4.

Estimated salary guide aud$100,000 up to aud$180,000 per year.

  • Compliance: Ensuring compliance with relevant government regulations, mining laws, and company policies.
  • Reporting: Reporting to supervisors or management about the progress of mining operations, challenges faced, and potential improvements.
  • Continuous Learning: Staying up-to-date with industry developments and participating in ongoing training to improve skills and knowledge related to mining techniques and technologies.
