Midwives offer care and guidance to women throughout the stages of pregnancy, Labor, and childbirth. They also provide postnatal care for both mothers and babies. This care is provided in various settings including homes, communities, hospitals, clinics, and health units.

Occupations in this unit group have a level of skill commensurate with a bachelor degree or higher qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 1).

Registration or licensing is a mandatory requirement for this position.  

Specialisations: Community Midwife and Midwife Practitioner.

Estimate salary aud$60,000 up to aud$130,000 per year.

Tasks Include:

• Offering advice and support to women in partnership with them during the pre-conception, intrapartum, antenatal, and postnatal periods.
  • Providing comprehensive care and management for pregnancy and childbirth.
  • Assessing progress and identifying warning signs of abnormal or potentially problematic pregnancies that may require referral to an Obstetrician.
  • Monitoring the well-being of women and their babies throughout pregnancy and during the labour process.
  • Conducting health education classes and seminars aimed at promoting the health of mothers and babies, covering topics such as reproductive health, antenatal education, preparation for parenthood, and breastfeeding.
  • Providing guidance on nutrition, childcare, and family planning.
