Description

ANZSCO 263213

The role of an ICT Systems Test Engineer (also known Systems Tester/Test Analyst (ICT)) involves specifying, developing, and writing test plans and test scripts, generating test cases, performing regression testing, and utilizing automated test software applications to assess the behaviour, functionality, and integrity of systems. The engineer also documents the test results in defect reports and related documentation.

Skill Level: 1

Your responsibilities include:

  • Test Planning and Scripting: Collaborating with stakeholders to define test objectives, requirements, and acceptance criteria. Develops test plans, specifies test scripts, and creates test cases based on system requirements and functional specifications. Ensure comprehensive test coverage and alignment with project timelines.
  • Test Execution: Conducting test execution based on defined test scripts and test cases. Follows testing methodologies and standards to assess system behaviour and functionality. Utilise various testing techniques, such as black-box testing, white-box testing, and integration testing, to verify system performance and validate system behaviour.
  • Regression Testing: Performing regression testing to ensure that system changes or updates do not introduce new defects or impact existing functionality. Conducts tests to identify any unintended consequences or issues caused by system modifications. Compare current test results with baseline results to detect any deviations and address them accordingly.
  • Automated Testing: Utilising automated testing software applications and tools to improve test efficiency and effectiveness. Develops and maintains automated test scripts to streamline the testing process and reduce manual effort. Leverage automation frameworks and tools to execute tests, generate test reports, and identify defects.
  • Defect Reporting and Documentation: Documenting test results, defects, and related documentation in defect reports. Accurately captures and communicates issues discovered during testing, including steps to reproduce defects and associated impact on system functionality. Work closely with development teams to resolve identified defects and validate fixes.
  • Test Environment Setup: Collaborating with infrastructure teams to set up and maintain test environments that replicate production configurations. Ensures that test environments are accurately configured to mirror the production environment, enabling realistic testing scenarios and accurate validation of system behaviour.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identifying opportunities for process improvement in the testing phase and implementing best practices. Evaluates testing methodologies, tools, and frameworks to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to incorporate innovative testing approaches.

The ICT Systems Test Engineer is responsible for specifying, developing, and writing test plans and test scripts, performing test execution and regression testing, utilising automated test software applications, and documenting test results and defects. Your role ensures that systems are thoroughly tested and meet the required functionality and quality standards. By identifying and reporting defects, you contribute to the overall improvement of system performance and reliability.
