Skill Level: 2
Your responsibilities include:
- Consultation and Assessment: Dental Prosthetists meet with patients to assess their oral health, discuss their needs and expectations, and evaluate their eligibility for dental prostheses. They take detailed measurements and impressions of the patient’s mouth to create customized prostheses.
- Prosthesis Design and Construction: Based on the patient’s specific requirements, Dental Prosthetists design and construct dentures or other dental prostheses. They work with various materials, including acrylics, metals, and porcelain, to create prostheses that closely resemble natural teeth and fit comfortably in the patient’s mouth.
- Fitting and Adjustment: Once the prostheses are ready, Dental Prosthetists perform fittings to ensure proper fit, function, and aesthetics. They make necessary adjustments and modifications to achieve the desired outcome and ensure patient comfort.
- Denture Repairs and Relines: Dental Prosthetists also provide repair and maintenance services for dentures. They make repairs to damaged or broken prostheses, and they may perform relines to improve the fit and function of dentures as the patient’s oral structures change over time.
- Patient Education and Care: Dental Prosthetists educate patients on proper denture care and maintenance, including cleaning techniques and potential issues to watch out for. They provide instructions on wearing and removing dentures, and they offer guidance on managing any discomfort or problems that may arise.
- Collaboration with Dentists: Dental Prosthetists often work closely with dentists and other dental professionals as part of a comprehensive oral healthcare team. They collaborate to ensure the optimal oral health and well-being of their patients.
