The role of a Network Analyst (also known as Network Designer/Network Strategist) involves conducting research and analysis of network architecture to provide recommendations on policies and strategies for designing, planning, and coordinating an organization’s network. This includes assessing the overall system environment and architecture. Additionally, the analyst may be responsible for operational tasks, such as monitoring system performance, implementing software and hardware upgrades, conducting backups, providing support, and maintaining the network.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Research and Analysis: Conducting research and analysis on network architecture and technologies to understand industry best practices, emerging trends, and potential solutions. Evaluates the organisation’s network infrastructure, identifies areas for improvement, and recommends policies and strategies to enhance network performance, security, and scalability.
  • Network Design and Planning: Collaborating with stakeholders to design and plan the organization’s network infrastructure. Assesses business requirements, evaluates network designs, and develops implementation plans that align with the organisation’s goals. Consider factors such as network capacity, reliability, redundancy, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Policy and Strategy Development: Developing network policies and strategies that guide the organisation’s network operations. Establishes guidelines for network configuration, security protocols, access controls, and resource allocation. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and organisational policies.
  • System Monitoring and Performance Optimization: Monitoring network performance, analysing data, and identifying areas for improvement. Uses network monitoring tools to track network traffic, latency, bandwidth utilization, and other performance metrics. Optimise network configurations, troubleshoot performance issues, and implement measures to ensure efficient network operations.
  • Software and Hardware Upgrades: Assessing and implementing software and hardware upgrades to maintain network reliability and security. Evaluates new technologies, conducts compatibility tests, and coordinates with vendors for the installation of network components and equipment. Follow change management processes to minimise disruptions and ensure smooth upgrades.
  • Backup and Recovery: Implementing backup and recovery procedures to protect network data and ensure business continuity. Analyse designs and manages backup systems, schedules regular backups, and tests the restoration process. Monitor backup performance, review backup logs, and make adjustments as needed.
  • Network Support and Maintenance: Providing technical support and troubleshooting assistance to resolve network-related issues. Responds to user inquiries, identifies network problems, and collaborates with other IT teams to address network incidents. Maintain network documentation, update network diagrams, and create technical guidelines and manuals.

The Network Analyst conducts research and analysis to provide recommendations on network architecture, policies, and strategies. You participate in network design and planning, monitor system performance, implement upgrades, conduct backups, provide support, and maintain the network infrastructure. Your role is critical in ensuring a reliable, secure, and efficient network environment that meets the organization’s needs.
