The role of a Network Administrator (also known as Network Specialist/Network Support) encompasses various tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and management of hardware and software. The administrator is responsible for documenting the diagnosis and resolution of faults, managing user passwords, ensuring security measures, and maintaining inventory documentation. They also focus on optimizing the performance of servers, printers, and personal computers while attending to other operational duties. Furthermore, they may provide help desk support and user training as required.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Hardware and Software Installation and Maintenance: Installing, configuring, and maintaining network hardware, servers, routers, switches, printers, and other network devices. Ensures that all equipment is functioning correctly and updated with the latest firmware and software patches.
  • Fault Diagnosis and Resolution: Documenting and troubleshooting network and system faults to identify and resolve issues promptly. Utilises diagnostic tools, analyses logs, and collaborates with relevant teams to diagnose and resolve network problems, minimizing downtime and disruptions.
  • User Password and Security Management: Managing user accounts, passwords, and access rights to ensure data security and integrity. Oversees user authentication, enforces security policies, and maintains user directories to protect sensitive information and prevent unauthorised access.
  • Inventory Documentation: Maintaining accurate documentation of network hardware, software licenses, and other IT assets. Tracks inventory, updates records, and conducts regular audits to ensure compliance and efficient asset management.
  • Performance Optimization: Monitoring and optimising the performance of network servers, printers, and personal computers. Utilises performance monitoring tools, analyses system performance metrics, and identifies areas for improvement to enhance network efficiency and user experience.
  • Operational Tasks: Performing various operational tasks, such as backup and recovery procedures, system upgrades, and network configuration changes. Follows established procedures and best practices to ensure smooth and efficient network operations.
  • Help Desk Support and User Training: Providing technical support and assistance to end-users, addressing network-related issues and inquiries. Responds to help desk tickets, troubleshoots problems, and resolves user queries. May also conduct user training sessions to enhance users’ understanding of network resources and security practices.
