Vocational education teachers in Australia (also known as polytechnic teachers and as a VET teacher or vocational trainer) are responsible for teaching one or more subjects within a prescribed course of study at a technical and further education (TAFE) institute, polytechnic, or other training institute. Their primary focus is to provide practical and skill-based training to tertiary students for vocational education and training purposes.

Vocational education teachers require a bachelor degree or higher qualification or a postgraduate diploma in adult education. Relevant industry and vocational education experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification. (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). - Maintaining Industry Connections: Stay current with industry trends and practices, and often maintain connections with relevant industries and employers.
- Classroom Management: Create a positive and engaging learning environment, managing classrooms effectively to facilitate learning and minimize disruptions.
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): Assessing students’ prior learning and experiences to determine if they are eligible for recognition of prior learning credits.
- Compliance and Quality Assurance: Adhere to relevant education and training standards and participate in quality assurance processes to ensure the effectiveness of the courses they teach.
