Building Associates are professionals who supervise construction sites and coordinate the material and human resources necessary for construction projects. You play a critical role in ensuring that construction projects are executed efficiently, safely, and according to specifications.
Indicative Skill Level:
In Australia:
AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma (ANZSCO Skill Level 2)
In New Zealand:
NZQF Diploma (ANZSCO Skill Level 2)
Building Associates require a minimum three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above. Relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification. Registration or licensing may be required.

Estimated salary guide aud$70,000 up to aud$100,000 per year.
Your key responsibilities can include:
- Construction Site Supervision: Oversee construction sites to monitor progress, ensure adherence to plans and specifications, and address any issues that may arise during the construction process.
- Resource Coordination: Responsible for organising and coordinating the material and human resources required for the construction project. This includes managing the delivery of construction materials, scheduling subcontractors, and ensuring that the necessary workforce is available.
- Budget and Cost Control: May be involved in monitoring project budgets and costs, making adjustments to ensure that the project stays within the allocated budget.
- Quality Control and Compliance: Ensure that construction work meets quality standards and complies with relevant building codes, regulations, and safety requirements.
- Project Planning and Scheduling: Work with project managers and other stakeholders to develop construction schedules, set milestones, and establish timelines for completing different phases of the project.
- Health and Safety: Responsible for implementing and enforcing health and safety protocols on the construction site to create a safe working environment for all workers and visitors.
- Communication: Facilitate effective communication among different stakeholders, including architects, engineers, subcontractors, and the construction team.
- Problem Solving: Equipped to handle unexpected challenges or obstacles that may arise during construction, finding solutions to keep the project on track.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of project progress, material usage, workforce attendance, and other relevant information.
- Client Interaction: Interact with clients to provide updates on the project’s progress, address concerns, and seek approvals when necessary.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and take proactive measures to mitigate them, ensuring the smooth progression of the construction project.
- Compliance with Regulations: Depending on the specific location and type of construction project, you may need to ensure compliance with local, state, and national building regulations, as well as any other relevant legal requirements.
