Electrician is a skilled professional with a wide range of responsibilities related to electrical systems and equipment. Your role encompasses various tasks, including designing, assembling, installing, testing, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing electrical networks, systems, circuits, components, appliances, and facilities for industrial, commercial and domestic purposes, and service and repair lifts, escalators and related equipment.

(Automotive Electricians are excluded from this unit group and are included in Unit Group 3211 Automotive Electricians.)

 

Indicative Skill Level:

The majority of occupations within the electricians’ group require qualifications and experience outlined below.

In Australia:

AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)

In New Zealand:

NZQF Level 4 qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)

 

Electrician requires a minimum three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above. Relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification. Registration or licensing may be required.

 

Estimated salary guide aud$80,000 up to aud$140,000 per year.

 

Your key responsibilities can include:

  • Analysing blueprints, wiring diagrams, and specifications to determine the appropriate sequences and methods for electrical installations.
  • Measuring and laying out reference points to ensure accurate and precise placement of electrical components.
  • Selecting, cutting, and connecting wires and cables to terminals and connectors to establish electrical connections.
  • Using electrical and electronic test instruments to trace and diagnose faults or issues in electrical systems.
  • Conducting repairs and replacements of faulty wiring and defective components to restore proper functionality.
  • Positioning and installing electrical switchboards, which are essential components for controlling electrical circuits.
  • Connecting electrical systems to power supplies, ensuring a safe and reliable source of electricity.
  • Testing the continuity of circuits to confirm proper electrical flow and identify any interruptions.
  • Installing, testing, and adjusting the electric and mechanical parts of lifts to ensure they operate safely and efficiently.
  • Installing, testing, and commissioning solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation systems, harnessing renewable energy for sustainable power generation.
